What it is
What does gearbox tuning change?
Automatic and dual-clutch gearboxes have their own control unit. Its software decides when to change gear, how quickly to respond when you press the throttle, and how much torque the gearbox is set to accept.
Gearbox tuning adjusts that software. After an engine remap it sets the gearbox up for the engine's extra torque. On a standard car it can make the gear changes feel quicker and more decisive.
Not every gearbox can be tuned, so send your reg and we'll check yours before you book.
Is it right for my car?
A good fit if
- Your car has an automatic or dual-clutch gearbox, such as DSG, ZF 8HP or S tronic.
- The engine has a remap, or you're having one: ask about Stage 1 and the gearbox together.
- You'd like quicker, more decisive gear changes.
Not the right job if
- The car has a manual gearbox: there's no gearbox software to tune.
- The gearbox has a fault, such as a warning light or rough changes: start with diagnostics.

What happens on the day?
At Unit 11, Wembley Park Business Centre, or at your door with mobile remapping: we check it first, keep your original software, and only then tune it. We tell you how long it will take when we quote.

Engine and gearbox together
If the engine is remapped, or you're planning it, ask about both when you send your reg. We'll quote for both, so the gearbox is set up for the engine it's paired with.
Warranty
If your car is under a manufacturer or dealer warranty, read the terms before you book. A warranty provider can turn down claims on parts a remap affects, such as the engine or gearbox.

How much is gearbox tuning?
There's no fixed price: we quote for your car, because the price is set by your car and engine, the gearbox and its control unit, whether the engine is remapped too and the car's condition. Every car is different, so we don't publish prices. Send us your reg on WhatsApp and we'll quote for your car.
Which gearboxes can you tune?
Automatic and dual-clutch gearboxes, including DSG, ZF 8HP and S tronic. Not every gearbox can be tuned, so send us your reg and we'll check yours.
Do I need an engine remap as well?
No. Gearbox tuning can be done on its own. If the engine is remapped, the gearbox can be set up to suit its extra torque, so you can ask us to quote for both together.
Can you tune a manual gearbox?
No. Gearbox tuning is for gearboxes with their own control unit: automatics and dual-clutch gearboxes. A manual gearbox has no software to tune.
Can you do a DSG or gearbox remap at my home or work?
Yes. With mobile remapping, we come to your home or work anywhere in London, with the same tools and the same checks as at Unit 11. Send your reg and postcode on WhatsApp and we'll confirm a time. Or bring the car to us at Unit 11, Wembley Park Business Centre, Wembley.
Will my car still pass its MOT?
A remap doesn't change the MOT test itself: the car still has to pass the same checks as any other car, including the emissions test. We do performance, economy and gearbox tuning only, set up for everyday driving. What the MOT checks.
Do I need to tell my insurer?
Yes. Please tell your insurer about any remap. Insurers treat a remap as a modification, so let yours know before the work is done, not after.
Will it affect my warranty?
It can: if your car is under a manufacturer or dealer warranty, the provider can turn down claims on parts the work affects, such as the engine or gearbox. Read your warranty terms before you book, and ask the provider if you're not sure.
Can it go back to standard later?
Yes, always. Every vehicle we remap can go back to standard. We keep a copy of your original file before we start, and even without it we can put the factory software back from our own large file database and dealer-level tools. More on putting a car back to stock.
