1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage and session storage, work in a similar way, and this policy covers them too. We call them all "cookies" here.
2. Your choice
The first time you visit, a banner asks whether you accept advertising cookies. Reject and Accept are given equal weight, and nothing optional runs until you choose.
If you press Reject, or make no choice, we only use cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to work. The law allows those without consent.
3. Cookies we use
Necessary (always on)
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
pt_consent (cookie) | Platinum Tune (platinumtune.com) | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected advertising cookies, so we do not ask on every page. Our server also reads it before sending any event to Meta. | 180 days |
pt_consent (local storage) | Platinum Tune | A backup copy of the same choice in your browser, with the date you made it. | Until you clear it; after 180 days we ask again |
Advertising (only if you press Accept)
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
_fbp | Meta, through our website | Identifies your browser so Meta can measure our adverts and show them to people likely to be interested. | 90 days |
_fbc | Meta, through our website | Stores the advert click ID when you arrive from a Facebook or Instagram advert. | 90 days |
pt_attr (session storage) | Platinum Tune | Keeps the advert click ID and campaign tags from the link you arrived on, so we can tell Meta which advert led to a dealer enquiry. If you send one of our forms, they are saved with it, and if you go on to register for a dealer account they go with you to the dealer portal. | Until you close the tab |
pt_lead_eid and pt_lead_form (session storage) | Platinum Tune | A random reference, and which form it belongs to, kept when you send one of our forms after accepting cookies. The thank-you page uses them to report your enquiry to Meta once, without it being counted twice, and then deletes them. They contain no personal details. | Until the thank-you page has used them, or you close the tab |
Meta's own cookies, such as fr | Meta (facebook.com) | If you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram, Meta may use its own cookies when our site loads the Meta Pixel. See Meta's cookie policy. | Up to 90 days |
We do not use analytics cookies. Any videos on our site play from our own servers, without video-platform cookies. Our typefaces are served from our own website, so loading them sends nothing to Google. Our car checker and booking form set no cookies.
4. Changing your choice
Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page, or this button:.
JavaScript is turned off in your browser, so our cookie banner cannot run and no optional cookies load. To change your choice later, turn JavaScript on and use Cookie settings.
If you change from Accept to Reject, the Meta Pixel stops, we clear the _fbp and _fbc cookies and the stored advert click ID on our site, and our server stops sending events to Meta. Cookies that Meta sets on its own domains have to be cleared in your browser or your Meta account.
5. Other ways to control cookies
Most browsers let you block or clear cookies in their settings. If you block all cookies, the site still works, but we will ask for your choice on every visit. You can also manage advert preferences in your Facebook or Instagram settings.
6. More information
